TagWax — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 August 2026
TagWax does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Everything the app does happens on your own device.
Your audio files
TagWax reads and writes metadata in audio files that you explicitly choose using your system's file picker or by dragging them onto the window. Those files are opened directly on your device and are never uploaded, copied, or transmitted anywhere. TagWax cannot access any file you have not selected.
Analysis
BPM and musical key detection run entirely on your device using a model bundled inside the app. No audio, no analysis results, and no file names are sent to any server. The feature works with no internet connection at all.
Online Lookup
TagWax has an optional Online Lookup feature. It is never automatic — it runs only when you open it and press Search. When you do, the words you type in the search box are sent to Apple's iTunes Search service or to Discogs, depending on which source you pick, and the matching release information is sent back. If you choose to apply a result, cover artwork may be downloaded from that service.
Your audio files are never uploaded as part of this. Only the text in the search box is sent. If you never open Online Lookup, TagWax makes no requests to either service. Those services handle the request under their own privacy policies.
Discogs will not supply cover art unless you identify yourself to it, so you may choose to add a free personal Discogs token. That token is stored on your own device, is sent only to Discogs to authorise your own searches, and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. You can remove it at any time from the Online Lookup window.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-ups, or logins
- No analytics, tracking, or telemetry
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No cookies used to identify or track you
- No data sold, shared, or disclosed to anyone — there is none to sell
Local storage
TagWax stores your own preferences (such as your chosen mode and key notation) in your browser or app's local storage on your device. This stays on your machine, is never transmitted, and is removed if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Network use
The app downloads its own program files the first time you load it, and afterwards runs offline. The only other network requests it can make are the Online Lookup searches described above, which happen solely when you ask for them.
Children
TagWax is a general-purpose audio utility. It collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with an updated date.
